I went to the supermarket today. The market wasn't very busy so as I prepared to check out, I looked for a check-out with few customers. There were 3 empty check-outs, (no cutomers), and several with lines of customers. I started for one of the open check-outs...saw an Asian chick (from behind) in one of the lines...and went in behind her. What a curious experience.
She was slim and kind of tall (5'8" maybe). Nicely dressed (probably rich), in earthentone shades. She had black fingernails...a frizzy (cool) braid...and she smelled like pachouli. She was nicely chiseled, with fine facial features and wonderful hands. I think she was in her early 20's.
I started to load my stuff onto the conveyer thing (watching her to see if she turned around). She turned...caught my eye for an instant...and looked away (pretty quickly). She was cool from the front, too.
The line wasn't long enough...she was up...buying some kind of juice...and some Altoids. I was getting intoxicated by the pachouli, and the braid, and the nails...(like the creeping numbs). She paid up...and just before she left she looked at me (I was staring at her by then), grabbed her stuff...smiled...and left. I was frozen there for a second. The checker started laughing at me and that snapped my synapses back to reality.
That was a weird experience.

I love this topic. Lately, I've been having some encounters. Nothing as intriguing as your exerpience Brain. But in a situation where there was a lovely and beautiful Asian girl(s) and only me. Kind of funny, I live in a town of about 25,000. Primarily causcasian. But I am noticing, and a lot, that I'm seeing more and more Asian girls. But no guys, kind of strange.
But yeah, very attractive looking females around here. I'm glad that I'm getting myself into tip-top shape and eating right. Lately, I feel as if I'm getting younger at heart and mind. I want to ask one of these ladies for dinner sometime. If I ever build up the courage.
Watch out... Bituin feels a little frisky.

heheh! I see Asian girls every day at school. A lot of them straight outta Hong Kong to study here. There's three kinds:
1) exceptionally fashionable with the Gucci shoes and the dyed, straightened hair (a process that is enormously expensive I hear). They have boyfriends who drive Acuras and dress darkly and they look very high class.
2) cute kind. Attach little stuffed animals of Badtz Maru or Pochacco to their bags. They wear cute clothing of baby pink and blue. Binders have Sanrio or other anime characters on them.
3) eccentrically dressed. These ones have the weirdest fashion sense and are probably the only ethnicity that could pull of wearing clothes like that. I don't even know how to describe it.

Are you talking about the HK girls tinababy? I only seem to notice the 2nd type. Cute little things, just like Zhao Di. They seem really young. I guess that's why I like them, since I look pretty young myself too.

hair straightening is not really that expensive. in our neighborhood, you can have a hair expert straighten your hair for as low as one hundred pesos and as high as five hundred. that's around two to ten US dollars for you.

Yep, HK girls Shadow! :D
ZM, I was considering getting my hair straightened too, and when I asked my hair dresser, he said it cost upwards of 200 dollars. He did straighten my hair that day, but only with a regular iron. It only lasted a day. The ones he was describing apparently last much longer and keep the hair shiny and soft. Lucky you...if it costs only ten dollars I would have gotten it done a long time ago!! :D hee!

so dissillusioned! They all straighten their hair? That must be the biggest business in Asia.
I had breakfast in Vancouver BC once in Chinatown. I can't remember what the place was called. It was pure chaos in a fun way. The din was huge. It seemed like there were 1000 people eating there at the same time. We had about 25 courses...with whole fish...and stuff I've never seen since. The breakfast table of the world.
The Chinese are not something to mess around with.

BC, well, in fact, a lot of Asian women have straight hair. It's just that not all do have straight hair, and then that's where the hair straightener enters into the picture.
And, yep, the smorgasbord that you're talking about sounds so familiar to me. There's a place in Manila (actually, in nearby Quezon City) where for as little as two hundred pesos (four US dollars i think) you can have your choice of about thirty dishes, plus bottomless softdrinks. Lots of Chinese around, just like what you said.

Brainchild,
We all like beautiful and attractive girls. From a married man with two children and experience with a dozen lovers before, I strongly encourage your guys talk to those you believe very attractive. Start the conversation. They won't refuse you, anyways. The most beautiful women or girls are the ones have lesser people chasing or laid. Believe me or not, man needs courage. I almost lost my beautiful wife in the college, thanks my brave action to her, finally take her in my embrace.
Start talking at first. Get her number second (you need courage too, maybe give yours first). You are done 50%.
The rests are depending your others characters.
I like a quote, I saw the other day, which I believe is very true, that a dying man most regretted thing on earth is he did not (try or have courage to ) sleep with the beautiful women he was attracted. I felt that too. When you are young, get as many as you can and you won't be regretted. Safe sex ofcourse!

I thought most Asian's had straight hair too. The only ones that don't are the ones who try not to have it. I must be looking in all the wrong places. I have to hang out in a beauty salon.
When you are young, get as many as you can and you won't be regretted.
I don't want to go too far off topic with this. As much as most people my age believe in this, I have to disagree. I think it would be more special if you found Mr. or Mrs. Right without going through all the people. But then I see your point. You don't know what you like until you've tried it.

No, I think some Asian girls who already have straight hair straighten it anyway. My hair is straight as well, but the look you get out of getting it straightened is the soft, shiny and if your hair is layered, sort of a smooth, chopped look. I have no idea how to explain it. Where's Tripper when I need her. I'm sure MY straightens her hair, and I wouldn't be surprised if Z did also. I hear it's a really common practice. Straightening your hair isn't a bad thing..so no need to be disillusioned. I just think it enhances what you have already. Sort of like having naturally nice nails, but getting regular manicures to make them extra nice.
This pic looks like her hair has been straightened. I'm SO envious!! :D

I think it appears that way because it's one of her earlier pictures. Maybe back from 2000 or even 1999 for that matter! I think with her hair up like that, it makes her look just a tad younger. I like that sig
Kind of back to the topic at hand. I was at work today and I happened to be covering the front counter by myself. And I noticed this girl walking in from a distance, semi-short black straight hair, fair skin... aside from Ziyi, she has to be one of the most beautiful Asian girls I have seen. She didn't look too young, her English was fairly good. When I was taking her order, I kept my head low because I was constant smiles and blushing!
Low and behold, I was such a kutlz, I messed her order up :( But she was so nice and understanding, laughing too. Most likely at me :(

I can't remember what the place was called. It was a formal sit-down...not buffet...not dim sum...unless it's a different dim sum than I know about. It was expensive...even in Canada.

I bought some trey-pack onions to plant in my yard-garden.
As I was getting ready to check out...I saw this Asian girl checking in one of the lanes. I immediately got into her lane.
She was gorgeous. Super skinny, with a big head. When it was my turn, I asked her for some planting advice. She looked at me and cracked this great smile. She started to give me a boat-load of instructions (everything I didn’t need to know) in this beautiful broken english. I of course, was all ears and eyes. I saw on her name tag Hiyori...cool. I kept asking more questions and the line was getting longer and longer. Finally she started laughing and said, “I go back to work!” kinda desparately.
As for me...I just skulked outta there smiling to myself. Probably some Asian Technocrat’s daughter. Man she was cute. They’re coming over here. They’ll all be here soon.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll post in here.
I saw the last 20 minutes or so of the Miss Universe thing. The 5 finalists had Miss China in it! I don't mean to take away from her, but I honestly think Z would have fit in there better, but of course I am bias. HAHAHA even my suitemates said Zhang Ziyi should be Miss China. Then they said she was too skinny. They know my admiration of Z, so I don't know if they were joking or not. But yeah... I'd rather have seen Z in there. Are there regulations for celebrities to compete in there?

I watched a little bit of it as well. It was at the part where the ladies had to pull out questions from a box or something, Miss China was up. She pulled out a question from one of the other ladies, it happened to be her own question. Very interesting.
Of course she had to do it again. It was a question, I think, about her country? Sorry, I really wasn't paying that much attention... flipping back and forth between the basketball game!

I taped it. Heehehe! I liked Miss China..I thought she was rather cute. When she walked out during the swim suit competition, I couldn't help but laugh. Typical Asian body (that I would rather have than the one I have now:ohman: )!! No curves...just straight down. Her body looked like one of my aunts. I laughed to my parents, "That could be Tita (Aunt) Constance out there!"
BC, maybe the girl you were talking with was Korean..isn't that a Korean name?
Speaking of Koreans, an exchange student here in Vancouver was attacked the other day when she was jogging in the park. She's in stable, yet critical condition. They're not sure yet if her parents are going to fly out here and get her, but the Korean Embassy has been flooded with offers for help and support, etc. I just felt so bad...she must have a really bad impression of Vancouver now. And it's also scary to think that women can't be by themselves anymore.
Whoa sorry...I just wanted to get that off my chest. :sigh:

But yeah... I'd rather have seen Z in there. Are there regulations for celebrities to compete in there?
Depends on your home country. In the Philippines, there are no such regulations/prohibitions. The only thing that celebrities---or any other contestant for that matter---would have to do is to join the local beauty pagent where the winner represents her country. Any prospective contestant would have to fulfill the basic requirements and pass the initial screening.
Those who would make it---in the Philippines, usually narrowed down to no more than 30---will be competing for the title. Once a prospective beauty queen gets in the competition proper, all bets are equal, whether or not she is a celebrity.
As a rule, however, celebrities would not want to be in a beauty contest. Because the chances of getting the title is so uncertain, it sometimes comes down as a career-destroyer. if she wins, it would be a certain boost in her career; but if not, then the risk of losing fans might be great (save for any die-hard fan). Either way, there is no assurance that a celebrity status would assure a win as your country's representative in an international beauty contest.
As a rule, too, the other way around is better---ie, being a beauty queen gets you a celebrity status. some actresses here and abroad (especially in south america) started out as career models and beauty queen. (which reminds me---zhang yimou picked out Z after seeing her in a shampoo commercial). in the states, vanessa williams would make a better emple for this (though the title was stripped away from her). even if you would not make it as a beauty queen, other people in showbiz may take notice and offer you a good contract.
so given a choice, you'd rather pray and make it as a beauty queen than try your luck in the pageant when your stars are alredy bright. i believe that when miss china returns to her native beijing, offers will flood her---more so that she made it in the top five. i even believe she's an instant celebrity even before she would have boarded that plane home.
and btw, z doesn't need to be in a beauty contest...she IS the most beautiful sight for our own eyes to behold!

that they take themselves too seriously.
The Chinese girl should have promoted herself as ”The People’s Beauty Champion.” Her everyday clothing could be a red micro-mini with a starched white cotton blouse and a Chairman Mao hat, Khaki swimsuit with bullit-holes and combat boots. Her evening gown could have been a Chinese Flag with big yellow stars over each bosom. For cryin' out loud, they try to fit into this decadent western ideal of beauty...which you’ll have to agree is ludicrous.
That Korean girl (pretty foxy) could have clothing based on electronic components. A silver bathing suit that looked like a vacuum tube would have been hot. Evening gown could have been a sky blue or jet black off the shoulder number with pentium chips over each bosom and ram-chip earings.
Don’t get me started on the my favorite...that tall Japanese contestant. These girls try to win by playing fair...never happen.

My two cocker spanials went nuts. I went to the door and there was an Asian girl caught in my screendoor handle. She looked like Carla from CHEERS.
We made eye contact. In a sweet voice (somewhat shakey) she said ”Sir, my name is Kim Suduc (?). I’m Korean and I would like to share with you the word of god revealed to us through the divinity of his son Jesus Christ.”
I cracked a big grin. If ever there was a time I wanted to talk about Jesus with someone...this was it. My opportunity to get next to god...by chatting with one of his little handmaidens was at hand.
“Suduk Kim, now. Kim is my last name.” She was really sweet.
I looked around for her partner (they usually work in pairs). There was noone else. I thought about inviting her in for a chat...but I wouldn’t be sincere, so I didn’t. I took her AWAKE literature...gave her a big smile...and sent her packing.
I felt bad about her having to do her rounds alone, though. Then I thought about the saying...”Beware the woman traveling alone.” Then I didn’t feel so bad.

They want western stuff. Western respect. They wanna have western fun...not just wash diapers and whitewash the back fence or make papaya preserves. They wanna be important and make a difference.
You help them get that...they will honestly love you. As much as they can, anyhow. They’ll be really, really busy. You may be left home with the remote to keep you company. Or on the internet, haha.
Girls are smarter than you think. Probably smarter than you and I. There‘s a growing world-wide network of ’em, too. SO WATCH YOURSELF.

IMO, the boundaries seem to be blurred. While to some extent some (if not all) Asian girls want to become westernized, there are also some Westerners who seem to have an interest in anything Asian.
So in the near future, much to the chagrin of some conservative people (you know who I'm talking about, Rain), there will be virtually no boundaries...a truly globalized world. There's concerns about eradication of minority cultures, but that's another matter deserving a topic of its own.

from my experiences in beijing, a lot of the youth there really are just driving for a modern view of the world.. i wouldn't really say that it is necessarily a "westernized" one, because a lot of them still hold on to their own ideals (specifically, politically).. i'd agree with ZM on this one on that the boundaries have been blurred.. when i go to taiwan as well, i woudln't say everyone there has the most westernized view.. i feel like slapping a lot of them.. also, from what i hear, japan -- for all its modernization and ultra-modern society, it tends to be one of the most conservative asian countries.. (altho many of the youths tend to be nuts, so apparently that's changing)..

Right on track, puubs. I remember reading one TIME issue which talked about decreasing performance in Asian schools. A good point of discussion, because most of the drop-outs almost agree in challenging tradition. They don't necessarily intend to do away with tradition, but they were pushing tradition to its limits; one Japanese student showed that what worked for industrial Japan might not work for today's young Japanese, because the world is becoming less and less rigid (for lack of a better word).

Everywhere I go here in Manila, I haven't found one girl who is proud to say that she's a Filipina. All of them have Western thoughts and ideas. They all like to hang out at posh places like Starbucks and other crappy coffee houses. This kind of attitude: these "cońo", or "jacko" people, don't command respect in my book. Most of my "hate songs" are about these people; never proud of their own bloodline and will gladly renounce it if offered a US citizenship.
Don't get me wrong: I have nothing against the US. I love that country, in fact. I just want people to be true to themselves.
I have nothing against girls. I love these delicate creatures of God; especially our girl Zhang Zi Yi. And she never denounced her Chinese origin, and still hangs out with the people she knew before she rose to stardom.
That's one of the biggest reasons why I like her.

A friend of mine and me went to a public place last night. We were drinking and listening to the music. My friend owns a communications company and we do some work together. He had a back injury last year and I was helping him straighten out the mess of his sprawling house from not being able to do anything and his sisters running wild while he was down. Anyway I was filthy...dusty... and really beat. And drinking.
This Asian chick came and sat next to me at the bar. This was in a public house built about a hundred years ago. A converted boarding house with rooms up top. There is a legend that the place is haunted by a ghost named Rose, who was a prostitute there who was murdered in a jealous rage by her bf. He was hanged...but he didn't care. I was drinking a micro brew...she was drinking a salty margarita. She was also smoking cigarettes like her mouth was afire (Don’t know how intelligent people can do that.)
My friend, who has 3 beautiful sisters, had an incident that day, where an older fellow made a pass at his middle sister and traumatized her to the point where we had to counsel her. I wasn't much help. I was thinking that a man...any man...should be able to tell a beautiful girl that she was in fact beautiful without seeming like he was trying to score...
I was sitting there in this bar...this fabulous chick was sitting there...smoking and looking at her matches...and I wanted to say something...but didn't want to try to pick her up, because, I don't do that anymore, because I used to save girls all the time, but it gets too tedious. She looked at me and saw me looking at her.
I said "Ok, what's your name and what's your story?" I felt compelled to break the ice. Also, I thought...cool looking chick...maybe a cool story. Really.
She looked at me kinda funny (but stopped smoking for a second) and actually laughed once. "Poudelait, (or something like that) and I'm Laotian. What were you thinking I was?“
I thought she was a Chinese...but since I really didn't care and didn't want to pick her up, I said "Japanese." (Reasonable mistake for an idiot.)
She laughed again and said "No, I don't think so." (I don't think so. haha.)
Anyway...I looked her in her eyes and told her what happened to my friend's sister earlier that day. (No reaction.) Then I told her about my philosophy about being able to tell a girl if she was beautiful, and not have to pick her up or get tedious. Then I told her I thought she was beautiful. She smiled and started smoking again and I started to finish my micro brew and it worked just like I thought. She didn’t tell me a story.
My friend said he was watching and he thought she was stupid and that's why she didn't react or have a story. I think she was defensive and then got really shy.
One think for sure...she really got hit on a lot...even by guys with girls already. When I got home I smelled like an ash can.

I don't think the girls participating to miss world are the most beautifeul women in the world. I mean, all i have to do is look at our romanian girl. I see everyday girls much more beutifeul than this "peasent girl" name miss Romania and they don't get much credit. I think is the same thing in other countries and this is the reason for wich i hate miss contests...:shake:...even worst...when i see a greek girl with the a huge nose i preffer to change the channel or close the TV...it's absolutely horrible to see a big nose girl in a miss contest, national or international.

Maybe some nude beaches, too.

This guy I know has an Asian fetish. He hit on me and of course I'm too smart for that, hehe. He lacks patience; if he were ever in a relationship with an Asian woman he wouldn't take it.
On the other hand, some guys find me attractive even when I'm just sitting on a bench listening to my personal CD player. It would probably be the same if I fix my hair, :bigwink:
Well no one can say that all Asian girls are the same.

Asian fetish, huh. That’s bad?
Is a fetish worse than an infatuation???
I bet a white boy might fall for an Asian girl because she’s beautiful. That’s a good reason to hook up...but maybe not the best. I would always give somebody the benefit of the doubt on such an important matter.

I'm not the kind that would be wrong unless someone corrected me; I've known this guy for a while and well I think a fetish is bad in some way. An infatuation is different, like you're COMPLETELY in love with a person.
Of course a white man would fall for an Asian woman because she's beautiful; can't it be because she has an incredible personality?

head to even the field? No way...the field is even...with bumps to make it interesting. Girls change.
A girl may start out beautiful and that’s all she’s got. She should play the hand she’s been delt. Nothing is final...and even if it is...there are worse things then having to settle for being gorgeous. She could be gorgeous and lose a leg.
More than likely...she’ll get better. Like she can get an MBA or law degree...then she’d be gorgeous and rich.
Most guys will settle for the gorgeous...even if nothing else happens.
Whatever happens...a girl should keep her hair up.

I think what ZZB is saying (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that many non-asian guys she encounters would be attracted to nearly any beautiful asian girl they see -- not because of what they see of her on the inside but initially by what they see of her on the outside. I too think it would be prudent for a reasonably intelligent young girl to be cautious of a guy (any guy!) that's obviously initially more attracted to what she is than who she is. She wouldn't necessarily be playing herself out of the game, but just holding her cards much closer. :agree:

Personaly (and i'm reffering only to the phisical apearence) i think asian girls are more attractive than the european girls, definitely more than the african girls...but i'm not certain about the american girls (but most of the americans have anglo-saxon origins) so i presume they have a big european influence, so yes, even than the american girls. And i'm not saing this just because i like Ziyi very much..asian girls have something...i don't know how to say it...:ohman:...

When you are attracted...black, white, whatever...you should say so if you can. There shouldn’t be so many negative connotations to just saying that.
A white guy complements an Asian girl and immediately he’s trying to bag her and it may not be true at all. Guys can be complicated and be stuck in difficult situations. There may be no opportunity for a relationship at all.
The thing is...getting a complement should be something cool and too often it isn’t. How a person feels about his or herself has a lot to do with how they perceive themselves getting on with others. In this world of nuance, complicated communication, and cross cultural opportunity...so much comes down to a smile or a few carefully chosen words. A complement should still be a complement and it should be a way for two people to feel better about being alive in the same world.
My hypothesis is this: Even though swimming in an ocean of BS...some things are natural and true. An attraction is an attraction and that in itself is a good enough reason to complement someone. Whether or not that constitutes a hit...doesn’t matter.

everyone can have the best of both worlds... if they just keep an open mind and go with the flow of things.

I wouldn't say a white guy is more likely to ask out an asian girl just because she is pretty than he is to do the same thing to a white girl.
I think we are just surprised when someone asks out a person of another race, so we look for some explanation. That guys are shallow and look for pretty girls is a convenient explanation, and certainly true to some extant, but its just as true for white girls as for asian girls. I think we just don't feel the same need give an explanation as when someone dates within their own race.
A white guy doesn't have to be especially shallow just to like asian girls. Speaking from my own experience, as a white guy, I once fell deeply in love with an asian girl I worked with. This occured right after I had an awful experince with white girlfriend. Ever since then I've found developing feelings for asian women a bit more easy than for white women.
I don't think there is anything wrong about with liking people of other races, at least no more so than with feeling more comfortable with people of your own race, which is how most people are. It's just the result of life experiences that we have no control over. Where we were born, who we've fallen deeply in love with, the movie stars who have enchanted us  etc.
I like being able to tell a girl that she is beautiful, it lifts a weight off my chest. Beauty is inspiring, and inspiration needs to be expressed. As a straightforward kind of guy, I prefer expressing it straightforwardly, by just saying it. Maybe not right away, since some girls just don't like it, but the sooner the better.

Romantic relationships between individuals of different races, ethnicities, or culture should not come as surprising nowadays. Such differences are surely issues when it is question of marriage, but they do not constitute the governing voice over simple attraction, amity, and love.
Look around you in your home area when you walk outside. You possibly form pre-conceptions about the strangers who pass you by, more often unconsciously than not. The same happens, for example, in the very first moments when you meet new acquaintances of your friends – though in this case it probably comes as a conscious thought. And in seeking new romantic relationship(s), such conceptualization is materialized from previous experiences and is what drives an individual to search for what is familiar and comforting while avoiding what is displeasing or disconcerting (note that what is unknown is set apart). These schemas comprise one factor influencing preference for a certain set/type of person in regards to romantic relationships and intimate friendships. If the schemas fail, one may begin looking for something new and unfamiliar. But even in this case, a notion has been pre-conceived because the individual will be looking for something else that is concrete and has yet to fit a schema, but for which information is readily available from the mind set**.
Now take one schema in particular, say "Asian girls are fresh-looking. Much more pleasing to look at. Especially the Chinese"* [quoted from Rain]. Indeed, you may compare Asians to Caucasians, Africans/African-Americans, Latinos, and so on. But it may not be sufficient to stay at that level. Among the Asians, you have the Chinese, the Japanese, the Korean, and so forth. And in turn, you have the Mainland Chinese and the Taiwanese – all of who are but one piece of the puzzle in the modern global multi-cultural societies. If you continue deeper and deeper, you eventually arrive at the individual level, at which point you realize that your preference is truly definition of a person’s who rather than the what. Yes you do prefer Asians – the ones who fit your schema of preference – but there are other Asians with whom you might not identify at all. Equally, you might one day find a non-Asian who is just ooh-so-perfect, and integrate the person’s features into you schema, thus either enlarging or modifying your preference. The unknown becomes familiar, and the familiar becomes comforting. After a certain point, the background of a person becomes a lesser concern, and the person him/herself is all that matters.
*Again, this applies only in the situation stated in the opening of this [rather long] post. A side note – I cannot disagree with Rain's comment. In my view he is perfectly correct. I would not, however, adopt this opinion to direct my interactions with other persons.
**Say you have only been dating Asians so far (either by preference or coincidence), and now you are "kinda getting tired of the same". You tell yourself, "Well maybe I should go out with a non-Asian next time." Whereas you were familiar with the aspects of a romantic relationship with an Asian person, in this case you are not too certain what the outcome would be, but you have a basic idea what to expect.
Here is a perfect example of unconditional regard --> the individuals on the board who have recently been hit with Cupid’s arrows.
We did not pick each other from personal preference. Rather, we found one another and became entangled in unconditional love.
…
I had a discussion with a few friends not long ago that revolved around whom we would prefer as a romantic partner, and as a life partner (not necessarily married). Everyone agreed that in either case, “it doesn’t matter as long as I love her”. If love is deep and honest, then any issues concerning differences among the individuals can be worked out, and love can prevail.

Yes.
The more time you spend with someone, the more comfortable you become with them, no matter what their appearance.
It's when you haven't spent time with the person that these preferences play a stronger role; like when you are going to ask out a girl you just met.

All this categorizing…by culture; by ethnicity; by whatever label we choose…it’s like we are taking members of the human race and filing them neatly into different, color-coded file folders, for the purposes of distinction and association.
Perhaps it is time we emptied these folders onto the lap of Mother Earth, where their content belongs, and let the natural selection take place on the basis of the individuals’ physical attraction and / or character compatibility, resulting in mutual love - that being the foundation of a long-term relationship.
For no matter from where; what cultural background; what ethnicity…at the end, when all is said and done, those are relatively minor distinctions vs. the variances in character traits of individuals WITHIN each one of those different groups.
Hence you can fall madly in love with a person from the opposite corner of the Earth, while passing over the person next door.
Of course, in a practical sense, there are some cultural hurdles, which may have to be worked out (i.e. customs, traditions, etc.) in a multi-cultural relationship.
On the other hand, they can also serve as a basis for enrichment of both parties involved; and may lead to better understanding and appreciation of other cultures as well, not only of the two involved.
BTW, excellent posts, krepta & Governor Yu.
Cheers,

large Japanese Garden in my city and the J tourists all go to see it. On hot summer days the park is full of J. We have a huge Chinese city garden now in the middle of Chinatown. So far...mostly white people go there.
That “all look the same thing“ is a cultural thing. People are more recognizable within a specific culture or race. Probably a by-product of the human condition. It’s interesting that until you get to know identical twins...they look the same too. Spend some time getting to know them...and they don’t.
Nobody looks like anyone else really. Really, you only know someone in a general way...until you meet them and talk to them. I think the mechanism you’re talking about is the basis for profiling...not always good.

I was watching FEAR FACTOR last night. It was their Valentine’s day...”Loving Couples” segment.
One of the couples was a Chinese girl and her boyfriend. The part I watched was where they lock the girl in this plastic box and lower the box into a pool and the guy has to swim down and save his lover before she either drowns or bails. This Chinese girl was a specimen.
She looked pretty normal until she stripped down to her skivvy suit. Unlike most Chinese girls I’ve seen she was very voluptous. One of the other contestants commented that the balloons on her chest would pull her to the surface.
I think she was a progressive girl becasue she shot back at him...“After I win this I’ll let you touch them.“
The really interesting thing was...under her bikini bottom...on her lower belly...she had a pretty eleaborate tattoo of a dragon. She pulled her bottom down so everybody could see...saying “I’m Chinese and that’s a Chinese dragon.“ Looked like whoever did that tattoo...took his time.
Well, they didn’t win. She blamed her boyfriend and started berating him. he was this rocked up white guy. He was skulking and moping...pretty much blaming her. I could tell that relationship was headed for the relationship scrap-heap.
She won’t have any trouble finding several more guys.

Her last name is Wong. There’s a big room in the back of the studio where she goes to work on her clay slab projects. Well, now I’m working on clay slab projects, too, so I go back there and talk to her all day. Hahaha.
She’s not super good looking but she has that super cool Asian way of talking and that sweet earnestness that is so endearing. Nice smile. Very smart...college grad...boyfriend has a computer consulting company she works for. Data-base engineer.
Anyway, I got her on my side and we’ve been chatting each other up. She didn’t like CTHD very much...but after talking to me, she’s going to go watch it again.
She doesn’t think she’s very creative. She’s doing the ceramics to unleash her creativity.

This girl looked a lot like Z. Different chin...but you can’t have anything.
I followed her around the store on the pretext of shopping. Lost her in the checkout.
If I ever run into Z personally...I think might have a problem.

I bet she gets a lotta action from looking like Z. I can just imagine. Hehe.

I went into a Safeway today to buy some food. I walked by the deli section and this Chinese girl was selling pizza.
I hear this “Hey. Have some pizza today. Only a dollar a slice today.” She’s looking at me. Cool accent.
I look at her name tag. It says Xiao. I say...”Hey, how to you pronounce your name?” She looks down at her tag.
She says, ”Oh, you say Z-eow. Like the cat meow with no m and a Z.” Big smile. She’s pretty cute.
I go around there where she is and start talking to her. She’s a big Chinese girl. About 5 ft 7” or 8” and kind of shapely lanky. Proably weighed about 120 lbs. She’s wearing a Safeway shirt and kinda tight jeans. I’m checking her out.
She laughs at me after a while and says, “Hey, you can’t come back here.” So I had to leave. Cool talking to her. I can just imagine what it would be like to talk to Z.
That pizza sucked, but that visit was waaaay cool. For some reason there are a lot of Asians living up in that part of town.

That Polynesian, I think Hawaiian golfer, Michelle Wie is 6 feet tall and the amazing thing other than her golfing prowess is that she's only 13.
She's seriously cute too, but I shouldn't be saying that considering I'm quite a few years older.
Also, about Asian girls, I was watching a news report tonight on the first phase of the 4 day surgery to separate those 2 Iranian women joined at the head. There was a young Asian nurse in the background, who with that surgical mask on looked like she could have been a lost twin of Z. It was the eyes and overall shape of her face. The resemblance of what I could see was amazing.

should be there? A girl from Beijing studying at PSU. (MBA program...natch.)
Ultra cool.
She looked vaguely like Gong Li...but not nearly as beautiful. Alone and approachable. Enough english to be understood...if you listened. I did...and I was her pest for the night. Haha.
We’ll call her Lucy...not her Chinese name...but really...her American name. Her mom and dad are teachers in Beijing. Her father teaches linguistics at a University in Beijing. Favorite food...dumplings. Haha, I laughed out loud at that.
She had her hair done up like Z does. Wound around and pinned in the back. Dressed all in black. I couldn’t help but stare. Sometimes she would catch me staring and smile. She said Asian girls don’t have boyfriends unless it’s very serious.
I tried all my Mandarin phrases on her. She couldn’t penetrate my Chinese, but corrected my pronunciations when she could. Cool sounding language, I tell you.
I’m going to try to have her over for dinner, she likes American food. ( I had to warn her about the calories.) She says the weather in Portland is very much like Beijing, but more rain. She gets her MBA in one year.

A little over a week ago, my city had an International Festival, which brought many foreign students from the local U, as well as the resident Bosnian and Hispanic communities to the party as well.
But the largest contingent had to have been the Asian community, a mixture of Japanese mostly, but also many S Koreans, a few Chinese and Cambodians. I was a happy camper! LOL! A lot of fine looking Asian babes were out in force. I hadn't seen that many since a vacation trip several years ago to the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.
There were also a few Polynesian babes. There's this one girl, Japanese I think I got a picture of(among many others)who I would definitely like to see again. I should've gotten her name. I'll make a point of it given half a chance the next time. Very beautiful! There were about 4-5 I can think of right off who put the F in Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine! Does anyone here know the Japanese or Chinese word for "fine"?

Oregon Museum Of Science & Industry and there were three tour-busses full of little Japanese schoolgirls. I think they were visiting from Japan.
There must have been 125 of them...all looked to be 14 or 15 years-old. I never saw so much straight black hair. Hahaha.
They were all dressed in uniforms. All had the same little black shoes, and the same white socks that came almost to their knees. They had short, pleated, grey skirts that came halfway to their knees, and litlle gray blazers. They had white blouses...buttoned all the way up. They didn’t have the little sailor suits like GoGo Yubari...but somehow...it was the same effect...multiplied by 100.
They looked like advance troopettes for an invasion. It was so cool.

I had my video camera with me so I took a quick shot to give you an idea what this thing looks like. Enjoy.
I asked if there was some way I could get the display when they took it down. The people said no, that stuff belongs to Maybelline and they take it back.
I thought about stealing it. The lady was reading my mind and pointed to the video surveilance camera and display. She said to ask Maybelline.
The crummy image with this note doesn’t completely communicate the power of that shot. It’s life-size and flawless. Laminated. Ziyi looks snooty and exclusive. You’ll note that there appears to be no fat on her at all. Lean and hard like a metal sculpture. Like a piece of steel. Probably the best display I’ve ever seen like that. She nailed the shot.
I had to look at it for a long time.

More and more I think we will be seeing her over here.
I know what you mean about not killing to get that image...but when you are walking through a supermarket, and come face to face with that image, it will turn your head around. Lotta power because there isn’t anything whimpy about her. She looks solid.

4) Use the makeup for Christmas presents to your female friends.

You know, I really don’t like the one below. I like the more natural Ziyi.
The size of it is very interesting though. When you walk up to it, there’s this unsettling (but not unpleasant) feeling you are walking up to her. The poster is in a distorted frame to make it look sort of 3D. I guess I like it for the size. I got a good idea of the space she takes up...which is pretty cool. I don’t get that from her photos...she seems a lot bigger in photos. She’s small and very trim.

This Asian (Japanese) lady who lives across the street from me just got back from China with her adopted baby. A little Chinese girl with a skinny body and a big head. Two little pig-tails already.
I suggested the name Ziyi. The mom laughed at me cuz she knows I like Ziyi and shook her head. Perhaps envisioning future problems, she said “How about Lydia Marie?”
I told her not for a Chinese girl. Ziyi is better. She didn’t agree.
I still can’t believe you can score a little girl like that. There are a bunch of those kids here in Portland.

I always walk my dog down by the Buddhist temple. Today we were down there and I saw one of the monks walking toward me on the sidewalk. When he got close to me, I could see that he was a she. I didn’t know they had cooed facilities at the temple. At least I think it was a girl. Normally I have an accurate sensor for girls of any style.
These monks are Japanese. They wear a garb that looks 19th century. The color is always brown-grey. They all wear these shoes that look like Eskimo boots that lace up to their knees in a criss-cross fashion. All the monks have skin-heads. Some of them are pretty big for Japanese. I was confused by this girl cuz she was a physical specimen. She was completely bald and she had a block head on a thick, muscular neck. She was about 62 or 63 inches tall, and thick through the body. She wasn’t fat. None of these monks are fat. She was dressed like the other monks.
I walked by her, passing her on my left. I tried not to stare at her, but as I glanced over, I noticed she was staring at me. She didn’t smile at all. I quickly looked forward and kept walking. When I got about 20 paces away from her, I looked back and she was walking away and looking back at me. Once again I thought she might have been a very pretty boy, but she turned the corner and I could see she had bosoms.
I didn’t think the monks had any girls down at the temple. They have a public day each Saturday and I’m thinking about going down to the temple and looking for that girl. Check her out.
