If Disney makes a business decision w/regard to any film...dont you think they do it with the idea that they will make money?
If they dont feel they can make money...they wont do the deal.
Some of these projects wont get exposure at all if a distributor wont pick them up. I think if a producer/director cant let go of some control...they shouldnt fish it out there.
Last time I saw RUMBLE IN THE BRONX, JCs voice was over-dubbed by JC in his broken english. That was hilarious. God only knows how well they did the rest of it.
CTHD will be shown on FOX in its dubbed version. Although it was carefully done...some say the best job ever...I dont want to watch it that way...and with SUV, and submarine sandwich ads shoe-horned into every 10 minutes of it. Its still gonna be on...at least 4 times that way.
RIP to the appeal.

i don't care much about the "general discussion" board on forever anymore. but the cthd section there is surely of redeeming value. i think it's one of the best, if not the best, cthd discussion boards that can be found on the internet. should the pub44 forums on ezboard be eventually gone, i hope at least the cthd board could have shelter somewhere. it'd always serve the purpose of intriguing and bringing insight to new generations of viewers.

That discussion may turn out to be the most unique discussion on the net ever. Who knows what iterations of the CRANE IRON story will make it to screen...probably none with the impact of CTHD. It may be the Citizen Kane of its genre.
The film wont change much...future viewers will profit by our discussions and perhaps be able to add to them.
They should be saved.

oh, copying a forum with all the threads is easy. with a small tool like teleport pro, all you need to do is click a few clicks and then wait for the whole thing to come down to your local machine, with all the pics and links intact. in fact, you can make an exact mirror site on your computer if you want to. all it takes is time and disk space. but there's no need to do it within the foreseeable future, is there?

Presently, it seems with space travel, we are vulnerable, as we would have been in the old days of sailing ships. Where setting sail for a promised land, was such a mortal risk, and mostly from nature itself.

From my view, the US Space Program is broken. We contract out everything now to thousands of contractors. Maintaining quality control in such an environment is impossible. Remember, Uncle Sam lives in a "low bid" world now. Everything, including flight safety, is subject to no frills.
When plastic parts are falling off of our rockets and damaging critical flight surfaces, when there is no contingency planning and when the astronauts can't even fix their ship in space, you're looking at a Space Program run by accountants, and not engineers.
I bet they didn't even bring duct tape. Too expensive.....

Crossing the Bar
by Alfred Tennyson
Sunset and evening star
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have cross'd the bar.

The oldest panda raised in captivity has died in a zoo in eastern China at the age of 33, according to China's official Xinhua news agency.
Peipei died on 13 August when her "organs simply failed", Xinhua reported. She was said to be the equivalent of 100 in human years.
The news came as China announced it was building a giant panda protection zone in the south-west of the country.
It is hoped the new reserve will encourage the animals to breed.
Pandas rarely breed in captivity and are endangered in the wild.
The average span of the Giant Panda is 25-30 years.
An official at a nature reserve in Baoxing country, in Sichuan province, said the new zone would have an area of 1,200 sq km and would cost 180m yuan (about $21.8m).
"Expansion of protection zones will play a vital role in avoiding inbreeding and helping increase the number of the rare creatures," he was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
In June, China announced the results of the first comprehensive survey of its wild panda population.
This showed there were an estimated 1,600 of the creatures left in the wild, 40% more than previous figures suggested.
Correspondents warned that the numbers might reflect the fact that the survey was so thorough, rather than a genuine recovery.
A further 161 pandas were reported to be living in captivity.

She was one of my favorite female singers back when I was a teen. Most of her songs that I ever listened to were from the album Self Control. Several became my favorites since. By Jim Leckrone due credt noted, thanks reuters
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Reuters) - A man charged on stage and opened fire at a heavy metal band and fans at a crowded bar, killing four people and wounding two others before being killed by police, officials said on Thursday.
Among the dead was "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, guitarist for the band Damageplan, who witnesses said appeared to have been singled out by the gunman and shot several times at close range.
Some witnesses told police the 25-year-old gunman, Nathan Gale of nearby Marysville, Ohio, shouted, "You broke up Pantera" before gunning down Abbott and firing at other band members and the crowd in the Wednesday night shooting.
Pantera was a hot Grammy-nominated 'thrash' metal band in the mid-1990s that Abbott, 38, and his brother, drummer Vinnie (Paul) Abbott, formed in the 1980s. The group, from Texas, had a bitter breakup after their last album in 2000, and the Abbotts formed Damageplan, which was on tour when the shooting happened.
"There was no connection between (Gale) and the band, at least formally. We do not know the motive and maybe never will. He is dead," Columbus Police spokesman Sgt. Brent Mall told reporters outside the club, the Alrosa Villa.
Gale fired more than a dozen shots both at the band and the crowd of roughly 200 patrons, at one point stopping to reload his handgun with an ammunition clip, police said.
A police officer confronted Gale as he held a hostage in a headlock and was apparently attempting to flee, Mall said. The officer, James Niggemeyer, killed Gale as the hostage, who was not harmed, struggled to get out of the way.

I can't believe it's that easy to get on stage and murder someone in the states.
Having met Darrell on two seperate occasions I'm disgusted that he was terminated so easily.
Go the NRA!! I guess they still think that it's the musicians that cause the deaths with evocative lyrics and not the fact that anyone and everyone owns a gun...

theres lots of bands/concerts and this doesn't seem to be a regular occurance
I remain hopeful that it is an isolated incident of insanity

metal detectors and other security screening. God knows why they wouldnt have that sort of security at a rock concert. But they didnt.
Maybe there wasnt a large enough crowd. Anyhow...there probably will be metal detectors from now on. That kind of security costs more.
We just dont see an occasional shoot em up as that big a problem. Theres a lot of blather about tightening up this and restricting that...but when it gets to the amendments...forget it. NRA is among the most powerful lobbys working.
If everyone at that concert had a handgun...probably nobody would have got shot....or everybody.

Perhaps the passing of this esteemed man of God will make people give more thought to their own lives and their place in eternity. We take so much for granted everyday assuming life will go on as it always has for us, and then we come down with Parkinson's Disease or lung cancer as Peter Jennings was recently diagnosed with.
I lost my dad to lung cancer going on 7 years ago. Like Jennings, he hadn't smoked in over 20 years either, although, like Jennings, he may well have gotten it from what's called Second Hand smoke, that is breathing in the smoke of everyone else at his favorite diner he and friends visited every morning for coffee. In a lot of "greasy spoon" type diners and most bars, there are no "Smoking or Non-Smoking" areas. Just the thick clouds of nicotene and many other carcinogens from the smoke-filled rooms.
At any rate, when we hear of disease, war, and tsunamis, we're forced to consider our own mortality instead of being in denial mode. Hopefully those times will be spent wisely with an eye on what awaits beyond our existence in this realm. And what choices we must make.

Ronnie Barker dies at 76
October 05, 2005
LONDON: British comedian Ronnie Barker has died at his home after a long illness.
The TV legend, who, with the diminutive Ronnie Corbett, starred in the TV hit The Two Ronnies, was 76.
His agent, Rosalind Chatto, said Barker died on Monday afternoon after a long period of heart trouble. His wife, Joy Tubb, was with him.
Barker was one of the most versatile and successful comic actors of his generation. His more memorable lines included:
* The man who invented the zip fastener was today honoured with a lifetime peerage. He will now be known as the Lord of the Flies.
* The toilets at a local police station have been stolen. Police say they have nothing to go on.
* In a packed program tonight, we will be talking to an out-of-work contortionist who says he can no longer make ends meet.

A four-metre python exploded when it tried to swallow a two-metre alligator whole in Florida.
Scientists stumbled upon the gory remains in the Everglades last week.
Scientists have documented four encounters between the giant snakes and alligators in the last three years. The encroachment of Burmese pythons into the Everglades could threaten an $8 billion restoration project and endanger smaller species, said Frank Mazzotti, a University of Florida wildlife professor.
The Asian python population has swelled over the past 20 years after owners dumped pet snakes they no longer wanted in the Everglades.
"Encounters like that are almost never seen in the wild. And here it's happened for the fourth time," Professor Mazzotti said. In the other cases, the alligator won or the battle was an apparent draw.
"They were probably evenly matched in size," Professor Mazzotti said of the latest battle. "If the python got a good grip on the alligator before the alligator got a good grip on him, he could win."
While the gator may have been injured before the battle began, wounds were found on it that apparently were not caused by python bites.
Pofessor Mazzotti believes it was alive when the battle began. And it may have clawed at the python's stomach as the snake tried to digest it, leading to the blow-up.
The python was found with the gator's hindquarters protruding from its midsection. Its stomach still surrounded the alligator's head, shoulders, and forelimbs. The remains were discovered and photographed by helicopter pilot and wildlife researcher Michael Barron.
The incident has alerted biologists to new potential dangers from Burmese pythons in the Everglades.
Not only can the python kill other reptiles, the snakes will also eat otters, squirrels, endangered woodstorks and sparrows.
While there are thousands of alligators in the Everglades, Joe Wasilewski, a wildlife biologist and crocodile tracker, said it was unknown how many pythons there were.
"We need to set traps and do a proper survey of the snakes," he said. At least 150 have been captured in the last two years.
The problem arises when people buy pets they are not prepared to care for - and a reproducing snake can have as many as 100 hatchlings.

Python could be cooked and sold commercially
it would be best cooked in the earth.
heated up rocks buried in the earth.
as aboriginals ( bush tucka ) or Moari's ( hangi ) cook.
the idea is to make a halo out of the snake. keeping the creature essentually intact but if you so wish you can flip off the head and disembowel it. (this can be used as bait for catching more snakes )
wrap it together with natural stuff or string.
this way the the meat remains moiste and full of nutrition.
the skin peals away easy and the meat falls away form the bone.
if you were real slick.............
you could de-bone it
and serve it in a giant bagel

I wonder what Python meat is like? Is it like bottom round, turtle meat, squid, or gaskets from a plumbing project? Seems like it could be really tough.
I would cut it into 9 pieces.
Definitely, Id skin it and gut it. Id put one roast into a crock pot or Dutch oven and tightly wrap and freeze the other 30 pieces.
I guess Id pot-roast that 9 section for about 12 hours in a broth of white wine, diced tomato, garlic, onion, celery root, and oregano. I might add some habenero pepper to that, but just a little.
Serve it with cold microbrew beer, sourdough bread, and spinach salad. I serve pickled daikon on the side.
Just an experiment. Python could go really wrong, I think.

So true. History is often made when two or more people interact. Ya gotta wonder what happened to the guy that told her to get out of that seat and move to the back of the bus. In the tourmobile of history, that guy was the one ending up in the back of the bus. Waaaaaaay, way back. LOL.

Re: Tookie Williams.
I won't be getting all weepy over this, that's for #### sure!
Williams brutally murdered a man and never fully admitted guilt or showed any real remorse. While he became the most popular and recent cause celebre "dahhhhhliiiiing" and protesting the execution was the hip or trendy thing to do, those same supporters were conveniently overlooking the fact that Williams had frequently started fights with other inmates and with the guards while at San Quentin. The Nobel organization which is often as politically motivated as any other in the world, chose to make him a rallying point in their opposition against the death penalty by giving him a prize for writing books against gang violence.
And that appears to be the only good thing Williams ever did. But that doesn't take anything away from his guilt. Everyone has to take responsibilities in life for their actions. He had to pay the price. That's justice.

Gene Pitney dies on tour (thanks reuters, due credit noted )
06 April 2006
LONDON: American singer Gene Pitney, who shot to fame in the 1960s with hits including 24 Hours from Tulsa, has died while on tour in Cardiff, his agent said.
Jene Levy said Pitney, 65, was found dead on Wednesday morning in the Welsh capital, where he had given a concert the previous night that won him a standing ovation.
There was no immediate word on the cause of death.
South Wales police said they had been called to a hotel on Wednesday morning and that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Pitney, who had a string of hit records as well as writing songs recorded by other stars, toured regularly throughout his long career and was in the middle of a 23-show tour of Britain.
Pitney's agent said his wife Lynne had been told of his death. Pitney is also survived by three sons: David, Todd and Chris.
Tour manager James Kelly was with Pitney on Tuesday night and said he was stunned by the singer's death.
"I've never seen him so well," he said. "He was absolutely buzzing and full of life."
He said Pitney had been found fully clothed on his hotel bed as if he had just lain down for a rest after the show.
Born on February 17, 1941 in Hartford, Connecticut, Pitney initially had no real ambition to be a singer. According to his official Web site, as a boy he was more at home collecting stamps and coins, trapping mink and muskrat and experimenting with electronics.
But music gradually began to take over his life and he formed a band while a student at Rockville High School.
After high school, Pitney teamed up with singer Ginny Arnell and recorded for Decca as Jamie & June.

His initial successes came when other musicians recorded his songs and he concentrated on writing rather than performing.
Roy Orbison released Today's Teardrops as the B-side of his hit single Blue Angel in 1960, while Rubber Ball became a million-seller hit for American artist Bobby Vee and Britain's Marty Wilde.
Pitney then began to record his own songs, working with producer Phil Spector and scoring his first American top 20 hit with the title song from the movie Town Without Pity.
Another movie theme, The Man who Shot Liberty Valance gave him another hit but it was the 1963 release of 24 Hours from Tulsa that brought him worldwide fame.
Pitney became friendly with the Rolling Stones and his endorsement of the British rock group in the United States is credited with helping them break through there.
Stones' stars Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote That Girl Belongs to Yesterday, which was a hit for Pitney on both sides of the Atlantic.
Pitney had 16 top 40 songs in the United States from 1961 to 1968, and 40 hit songs in Britain up to 1974.
He enjoyed a revival in Britain in 1990 when his duet with Marc Almond Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart reached number one.

Many believed Harriet was over 176 years old. One of the oldest of all the living creatures. Not any more. Harriet actually knew and was a pet of the late Charles Darwin. Yes, THE Charles Darwin. She was just a little turtle back then.
Recently, Harriet was living at Steve The Crocodile Hunter’s reserve in Australia. One has to wonder if why she died. Seems like if a turtle can live to be 176, then it shouldn’t be outrageous to think with some care she could have made it to 200, or even more. I wonder if Steve was rough-housing with her and cracked her shell or something. I don’t necessarily trust that guy.

PA: QUITO: The world's oldest person, a 116-year-old Ecuadorean woman who drank donkey milk for health, died on Sunday less than a month before her birthday, her relatives told local newspapers.
Maria Esther de Capovilla was declared the world's oldest person in December by Guinness World Records, taking the title from a US woman.
Capovilla was born in Guayaquil in western Ecuador on September 14, 1889, the same year that Adolf Hitler was born and the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated, and lived in a ritzy neighbourhood with her daughter-in-law and son.
Relatives attributed her astonishingly long life to regular doses of donkey's or goat's milk, glasses of wine and a quiet life dedicated to her family.
Her eyesight was good up to the end and she never needed glasses, they said.
As a girl at the turn of the century, Capovilla liked to go to parties but never drank alcohol. At the time it was the custom for women to touch the rim of the glass with their lips without drinking, as a sign of accepting hospitality, her family said.
Capovilla died of complications from pneumonia at a local hospital, relatives said.
She had five children, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, according to local media.
Elizabeth Bolden, from Memphis, Tennessee, born August 15, 1890, had previously been regarded as the oldest living person.
"She's probably the oldest person alive right now, but that's up to Guinness to announce," said Stanley Primmer, the head of Supercentenarian Research Foundation, a nonprofit group that studies longevity in Pittsburgh.
A Guinness spokesman was not immediately available for comment.
In May, friends and relatives of a woman in San Augustin, El Salvador, gathered to celebrate what national records indicated was her 128th birthday. Cruz Hernandez was born on May 3, 1878, according to the records.
AdvertisementAdvertisementNational birth registry officials sent Hernandez's documents to Guinness last year but have yet to hear from the organisation.
Guinness says the oldest "fully authenticated" age to which any human has ever lived is 122 years and 164 days. Jeanne Louise Calment was born in France on February 21, 1875, and died on August 4, 1997.

One has to wonder if there will be a whole bunch of women who live into their 120’s. What with improved health care and the natural toughness of the female specie. I don’t see men matching that. We’re just too rambunctious to last. That will mean, young men will be in big demand for these older women. Men to help them spend their retirements funds, and share their hearts.

It is understood Irwin was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest while swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas where he was filming an underwater documentary.
Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a fatality.
Irwin was known for his Animal Planet series The Crocodile Hunter, and is the director of the Australia Zoo in Queensland.

James Kim and his family was on vacation driving from Roseberg, Oregon to Gold Beach on the Oregon coast when they took a wrong turn at night and got lost in a remote section of the Oregon coastal mountains. Their situation became dire when a winter snowstorm socked them in. After nine days hole up in their car with no food and out of gas, Kim decided their only hope was for him to attempt to hike out for help. Just after he left the family was found and rescued. A desperate search went looking for him. Day and night they searched. Today his body was found eight miles from the car face down near the Rogue River. The Terrain was almost impassable. They had to lower searchers in by helicopter. He was attempting to follow the Rogue River out of the wilderness.
They had cell-phones, but they were out of a service area. They had sophisticated navigation in their car but out of date or incomplete maps. They still got caught by the bad weather. Searchers new they were out there, but couldn’t get in to look till the snow stopped.
That missing family was too small, and the world was so big last week. Who would have believed it would be so difficult to find a whole family? We were really pulling for them. I think that guy was really brave and must have been desperate.:(
