We are known as ZFilms, consisting of this messageboard and a number of fansites that collectively occupy a pair of high-end servers on the Internet.

Integral to ZFilms is the main messageboard, or the part of ZFilms where fans congregrate for daily updates. But these are simply the phyiscal descriptions of ZFilms. What is our underlying purpose? What is our root approach to being a fansite?

One thing I would like to make clear is that ZFilms is not a temple to Zhang Ziyi. Shrines are inherently static interpretations of one individual's admiration of Ms. Zhang. Many websites are less fansites than they are shrines of worship. Shrines are fine as artistic expressions. That is not who we are or what we do.

Yet another interpretation is that we are a fansite. This might be closer to the truth, for ZFilms does have many characteristics of what a large fansite might truly be like. But this too is somewhat inadequate. We are a kind of unoffical fansite, because fans come here to congregate. But we are also something else.

Zhang Ziyi is a real person. She lives and breathes and works in the world among us. When she does not work, she entertains herself, as do many people, by surfing the Internet. How convenient it would be to visit a place that seems to like you. So that is, what ZFilms is.

An unofficial rest stop for Zhang Ziyi herself? It is one of the reasons why we are different and it is one of the guiding principals in why the site was designed this way.

So yes, we cater and appeal to her fans. but we are keenly aware of who else visits here. This is why we never tolerate an unkind word and this is why some aspects of our site appear to confound conventional wisdom. Yes, we do tolerate off-topic posts, because we are sensitive to what she wants to read. Yes, we encourage creativity from the fans, because it delights her to read these tributes. Yes, ZFilms is different than any other fansite or temple, for one simple reason.
