So here is a chance to stop and reflect. Where were you when you first saw Zhang Ziyi. Was it in a movie, a magazine cover, a television commercial?
For me, it was when CTHD premiered in the Washington DC area. It was a Saturday, December 8th, 2000, and the yuppie line in the Washington Post was buzzing about this movie. Mrs. Virg and I decided to go check it out, and we went to the Sony Theaters at Pentagon City to catch the noon show. Five minutes into the film, the projector died and everyone was ticked off. The theater manager refunded all our money, and suggested we catch it at the Lowes Court House theater, a few miles down the road.
Decisions, decisions. Do we go and see it or just go home and forget about this flic. We headed for the other theater it and caught the 3 o'clock matinee.
Fifteen minutes later, I was struck deaf, dumb and blind, when this..... this...... this...... girl, turns around in Sir Te's study. Who the hell IS THAT? Who is she? What is her name? How come, how come she is SOOOOOOO beautiful, SOOOOOOOO cute, SOOOOOOOOO lovely. How come, how come my Coke is dribbling down my neck - forgot to swallow. What the hell is her name? Must find out her name!
Gotta get on the Internet to find out more about her, this zang zeyi, or is it yizi, person ......

I first saw Ziyi in CTHD as well. By the time I saw the movie, I had many thoughts running through my mind. Then I thought "Wow, that girl is such a great actress! She kicks ass too!" :D Seeing her in other movies like The Road Home and Rush Hour 2 make her seem a lot more talented. Her character in CTHD reminded me of myself. After all that Zhang Ziyi news, I became the bootleg! Nuff' said.

Sadly I don't remember... I probably first saw her in a CTHD commercial, but I can't remember. The first time that I can remember was a RH2 commercial. Luckily after that I was able to see RH2, CTHD, and tRH a couple times (I didn't have to wait like all you guys hehehe).
Dang! I wish I would have known then how much Z would have affected me. Maybe then I would have paid more attention. lolZ

I did see her doing that kick on the movie poster with the scream.
I went to see it at an art house and got turned away cuz there was a line of Chinese 2 rows deep running around the threater. I almost gave up...in fact I did give up. Then it got a wider release...and I ended up in Sir Te’s study.
The rest is history.

Who the hell IS THAT?
Uh, Virg...if I recall correctly, "hell" wasn't the word you used...didn't the word start with an F? :D
I also saw Ziyi in CTHD, and was quite amazed.

errrr..... yes, TB is correct. My reaction was, frankly, a lot more "intense"
I also clearly remember feeling around the floor, looking for my eyeballs, since they went missing having popped out of my skull, and I needed them to drive home. Mrs. Virg was of the opinion that I needed ambulatory care, but I just asked if she would kindly remove the ice pick from my temporal lobe, which would fix me up right away. I think she left it in there and I haven't been the same since.
But that's alright. I barely notice it now.

Like i mentioned many times before. I first saw Ziyi about 2 years before CTHD came out. She sang a song at Chinese New Year Show and i thought she was a singer for a long time, until i saw her movie TRH.

Where was I when I first saw Ziyi? Well, my first reaction was :
"Just another trying hard Chinese actress?"
I had thought that she belongs to the many new faces who still have to prove their mettle in the entertainment industry. I had been immersed in HK flicks, even watching movies as late as five in the morning. It was also at the same time that I began to appreciate art films and film noir.So the more I saw Chinese actresses (and actors as well), the more I was getting disillusioned: they are only good for temporary entertainment value, but they will never endure time. Not worth your money.
I always saw Ziyi on the CTHD posters that were around the mall. I was not yet sold to the idea of actually seeing CTHD in the big screen. I thought that to save money on a movie that might prove disappointing for my discriminating ("refined"?) tastes. Anyway, fifteen pesos (US$ 0.30) is nothing compared to seventy (US$ 1.5) that would have gone for "just another movie".
Just another trying hard Chinese actress? No way.
But eventually, I found myself ensnared, captivated, enamoured. And in love. As the cliche goes: the more you hate, the more you love.
Then I decided to see CTHD on video. And TRH.
And...well, finally, I got Z'ed anyway. :D

i had been talking to some friends about this "chinese actress" they had "seen"...........can't remember the specific's but.....................
i had remembered CTHD, for it was a great movie and i like all the acting
the stunts, the sword play, the story..............and that cute girl "what's her name"
Co -incidence had, rush hour two was on a big screen in town
like a newly hatched turtles we b-lined for surf,................i mean theatre.
through out the movie,
i cold not believe this was the same girl..........
but her eyes, so captivating
a rose
so beautiful, yet, the thorns on this rose.............are extra deadly................extra sharp
but that closing scene................
the moment she walked in that room with her little bomb
my protective instincts were aroused,
i needed to jump into that screen, turn off that bomb ( easy, it has an on -off switch )
and give her a big HUG!
however Huli does not die
the explosion was a great way to hide ones escape
and establishment of a new identity
that of an Asian student at Victoria university, wellington NewZealand
regardless...............
i had never been so captivated or mind set in a spin by any actress in my life
( being that i have met a few etc, and they are all people like you and me )
I found myself making the following wish's
someday.................
1) meet her, make her my girl
2) see every movie she has been involved in
3) be a loyal and dedicated fan..............write her a song and poem, 2 3 4 5 or more..................................
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, getting there.
that scene.......inspires memrory of the 70's glam rock band Mud
"And she walked in looking like dynamite
She said now come along
boogaloo through the night
And by the way she's moving well
Dynamite
might she not with all
she's got
she's got the whole town lighting up dynamite
Nobody quite knowing what to do wrong or right
But they all know Zhang Ziyi is Dynamite
And they're right.
They're right."

wine.
crackers topped with salmon and cream cheese,
strange little pastry objects
asparagus
yet, why is there no water?
After seeing CTHD, i knew that girl was for even greater things
and would be able to stiplulate mineral water available at all times - eventually her own glass:D
Zhoa di, i bet you wore white pyjamas to CTHD.

Ofcourse, as many others i to first saw Ziyi in CTHD, ofcourse, with a delay of something like a year ot two cause i didn't wanted to see CTHD at the cinema. In fact, at first, i didn't wanted to wach CTHD at HBO either cause i didn't liked that flyng stuff, but eventualy i said to myself: "Well, c'mon let's see this mouvie and laugh a little and besides there is a pretty actress there"....didn't knew how much i'll like it\her and like Gaz i to just loved those eyes (not that i don't like the rest).
So this was my start.

I first saw her in a student magazine announcing that CTHD was *finally* (it had taken about 3 months!) coming to Bangor cinema. I didn't think anything of it until I saw the film, though. I wasn't even that struck by Ziyi's looks; I just liked the fact that she kicked so much ass and looked so angry. It was only when I got the DVD that I appreciated how nice she truly was.

I was watching T.V. It's Oscar Academy Award night, then I saw Zhang Ziyi with Michelle Yeoh waving at the fans in the red carpet with Ang Lee....

Oh yes, the Academy Awards! That's where I also saw her, when Ang Lee won Best Foreign Language Film for CTHD, he also thanked Ziyi and she was smiling in that golden dress and that slightly wavy hair

I think that was at the Golden Globes or something.
Z wore a flower-print haltertop gown to the Academy Awards.
I remember the time you’re talking about. Ang Lee was getting his award and him and Z walked up to accept. He introduced her and she waved back at him as if to say “No...you.” I thought he introduced her as his wife and remember thinking... “Wow! Ang Lee’s wife is really hot.“
Later I found out that was Z. She looked so different. Not like Jaio long. Hahaha. Glamourous. Poised. Ultra-slim. Shimmery.

Right where I am now. I was surfin the net and ran across the CTHD trailer somewhere, and the instant I saw her, my breath was taken away and my mouth was wide open.
My first reaction was something like "Wow! My God, who is that?!"

I remember the first time I saw Ziyi. I was at a movie with my mother and saw the trailer for CTHD. Then when I actually bought the DVD and started watching it... there she was. Zhang Ziyi. I was like, "Who is this girl? I have to find out more. So I went surfing the net and came across Forever, which eventually lead to Films! :D And the rest is history....
