“Coffeetable Kurosowa.”

Problem...Cruise-control. The director is the same director from GLORY, and he has the epic formula down. This critic says it’s impossible for Cruise to do anything noirish...because Cruise-control takes over and turns night into day.

I was looking at a book of old Japanese photos from 1850 to 1930. The pix of the Samurai were totally cool. There were pictures of the noblewomen and Geisha of that era. Most were very short and devoid of shape in their kimono. That girl from TLS looks kind of tall and western by comparison.

I’m kind of excited to see this because of my interest in the era. I guess I don’t care if it’s a little shallow.

I liked Glory, but I've read that the battle scenes were reminiscent of Braveheart and Dances with Wolves. If combined, I guess that is the Last Samurai :ohman: That Japanese girl in the movie does look tall, almost as tall as Tom.

It's not hard to be as tall as TC, since he's only about 5'6". About 1.5 m. I won't get to see it this weekend probably, but definitely within the next week. I wanna see that and Stuck On You(Matt Damon & Greg Kinnear comedy) before the 17th.

Saw Last Samurai today and I was impressed. Superb cinematography and a great script. Cruise was compelling in his role as the false American war hero who redeems himself in Bushido. Thematically, it's a lot like Dances With Wolves and Gladiator. Excellent performances all around.

Yeah, someone said last week that the movie was a bit like Dances With Wolves and suggested this movie could be called Dances With Samurai.

Saw it today! It was terrific! And I don't normally give out "terrific" to just any movie!! :D

I was crying and crying!

And I want to adopt those two Japanese boys! :D

100 extras in TLS...but CGI made it seem like thousands.

The Samurai swordfighting was terrific. Especially the ninja fight. Those ninja were cool. QT should have studied this film before he released KILL BILL.

The Samurai were terrific looking. Never seen a film were Japanese men were so appealing. Very manly. Well, maybe Goldfinger. Haha. (Normally I’m not attracted to male characters, but these guys were just great.)

That Japanese girl was too hot for that village.

Yah, I went to see TLS again today.

I declare The Last Samurai the winner of the 2003 Jiao Long Annual Award for Epic Excellence, along with Whale Rider for the 2003 Zhao Di Annual Award for Dramatic Excellence.

biggest star.

He’s got a real problem with that. Most of the arguments for TLS not winning an oscar nomination have more to do with Tom...than the film as a whole. The girl I went to see it with...went to see Tom get beat on by that Japanese guy.

What’s he supposed to do? Hahaha...stop working?

I think he should just take character roles for a while. Short of that...put a bag over his head. Too damned bad.

I liked TLS.

I think the same thing won’t happen to Z...because we want to be saturated with Z.
