Now with Kung Fu Panda in cinemas, I dunno if anyone here has heard of what is currently the hottest cartoon series in mainland China, the "Red Cat and Blue Rabbit" series. If you like KFP, you might just love this. It's an odd hybrid, where cutesy looking animals star in a wuxia plot, and while looking silly at first it's quite addictive. There are two of them, firstly, "Red Cat and Blue Rabbit's Seven Knights" where the titular characters fight the evil Tiger Blackheart, and "Red Cat's Adventures", where the Seven swords-animals find themselves up against the Rat Empire.
The neatest thing is that the cutesy style underlies the fact that it's more violent than similar Western cartoons might be...characters die FOR REAL, the heroes can resort to some quite violent means to achieve their ends, and the villains aren't exaggeratedly silly as to be non-threatening upon close examination, they are quite dangerous. The Chinese child is exposed to quite a bit of harsh realities compared to the American child when one looks at it this way. Odd.
"Red Cat's Adventures" is a lot better done, more suspenseful, while "Red Cat and Blue Rabbit's Seven Knights" contains too much action for its own good at times and not enough suspense.
But still, worth a look, if you can understand the language.

Allow me to bump this up in my introductory post here in this forum.
My name's David "Daveykins Foxfire" Gonterman, and I've been doing stories and comics online for over a decade (success depends on what time of the day it is, of course,) and I've been looking around for a place where I can take my little hobbie of mine into the next level.
Me and Ivan's been good friends for a while, and he's got me hooked on Red and Blue. In fact we've been shooting ideas back and forth about a new series based on the Seven Knights series. I don't know if GreatDreams would be interested in it, but I want to have something solid to pitch to them before I even consider mailing them a letter about it.
Here's the idea behind what I'm calling "Seven Knights International:" From what I've read right, the famous Seven Swords appear every now and then whenever something majorly evil pops up to threaten the world. In this story set in the current time, the seven swords don't appear all over China, but all over The Entire World, and it's up to Red and Company to find them before the bad guys do.
Of course, that doesn't mean that other people find these swords, or rather the swords chose them, and they form the new Seven Knights. That will have the opprotunity to include new characters from different countries (Like my Johnny Briz character from America who gets one of these swords, and I'm sure there's a certain Penguin of Ivan's who'd love to see some more action) and have a completely new angle for Red to chew on, namely international friendships. And rivarlies.
Like I said, I'm just putting down ideas and shooting things around with friends, but I felt that It's something a lot of people here may be interested in, and hopefully some of you would go 'Hey, that idea doesn't sound half bad.'
Or rather, I'd probably hear, "What in the Name of Buddah did you get wind of Red Cat and Blue Rabbit? You live in Saint Farickin Louis from America!"
Ah, the miracle that is the Internet. Who can deny it's glamor?

She's waaaay too foxy now. Don't get me wrong. The idea of Ziyi with a, a, a, tttttail tickles me in a dangerous place. I like the image waaaay too much.
So...no...for me on that one...but maybe another one...
Here's the thing tho. We all know if SHE saw that drawing...SHE'D wanna do it...cuz I think she's a bit immature about things like that, and we know she likes the stuffed animals. I have a suspicion when she's back home and lets her hair down she regresses to about 12-years-old.
BTW: That's a pretty good drawing.
Also: SEVEN KNIGHTS INTERNATIONAL might be a pretty good idea.

Thanks for the good word. I'm still looking for a good place for me to share my ideas. I've found this forum because of a Google Search for "Red Cat and Blue Rabbit" and I saw Ivan's name. I don't know if this is the best place for it, but I'm looking for an excellent place that won't immediately run me out on a rail.

As long as your ideas include the Z-ness, we have no problem with what you are trying to do.

Problem with my little project is that I don't know if it involves the fine lady Ziyi, which is why I want to ask if there is a place that is more appropriate.

You can post it in the SCRIPTZ forum.

Thanks, Brainchild that you like the drawing.
It was just a spontaneous and quick sketch.
In the meantime, I was able to watch Kung Fu Panda and I thought about Ziyi to do the voice acting for Viper, the snake. Maybe for a Chinese version.
DaveykinsFoxFire, I´m looking forward to see your online comics.:bigwink:

In that case, here's something to whet your whistle until I get something set. Here's Red Cat with one of the International Knights; Johnny Briz from America.

I've been seeing them in various forums. (Chinese language only, in fact I'm getting a "Chinese for Dummies" book to learn the language because of Red Cat) And I can't get enough of the cat.

ripped?
Good luck on the Chinese language thing. What we've found about the Chinese is when they want to talk to us, they do. Their english isn't really excellent, but pretty good. At least as good as most of us.
Learning Chinese is really difficultk, I think.

Ripped? Well, they're supposed to be cartoon characters, after all.
And I do hope that they see what we're going for enough for them to want to talk.

Oh, I think by now I think it's all right for me to show you the site I'm making for my little Red Cat International project, even though it's still about half done. But I have most of the new characters up there and ready to be seen by people. Give it a look see at http://sites.google.com/site/redcatinternational/

Oh, it's just a Google Site used as a Wiki with the images housed by Amazon's S3 service. Anyone could do that.
But nice idea for a series, anyway, is it? ;)

I am bumping up this thread just to show that a new season of this excellent animated series is now running in China. The standards have kept up. Gorgeous background art, nice character design, and amazing action sequences. Won't bore a single grown up.
Check it out.

Kinda like if Ang Lee directed a Disney Chinese anime.
How could you expect anything less? The Chinese have a visual sensibility formed by watching films by Yimou and Tsui Hark and others who have redefined visual boundaries for anyone who's seen them. Just so, anyone producing anything over there will have that level of sophistication to reach for.
There are some Honda Prius ads on TV over here that I bet were done in China. The ones where the landscape; indeed everything is made up of squirming people reconfigured to depict a very green, happy landscape complete with a squirming sun. I especially like the river with blue-clad water and occasional jumping white-clad bubbles. But what a headache to choreograph and produce. Probably some special effects in there, too. It all looks Chinese too me. Like some of the stuff at the Olympics.
RCBC is very nice to watch. Somebody took some time with the music, too.
