She was for Sarah Palin - a kick-ass gun-toting Alaskan. :D

I think Ziyi probably likes her men conservative. Very conservative. Like McCain.

I recall reading somewhere that she applied to become a member of the Chinese Communist Party. One has to wonder what her economist father or capitalist fiance thinks about that.

keeping up appearances and growing their influence, they'd sign her up and put her in charge of recruitment.

I'm not a joiner, but I join if she asked me. Gladly. As long as she helped me up the first few hundred steps. I like those black hats with the stars.

And I like her.

Probably it's more likely she'll join up with Tom Cruise and the Scientologists. I think she could do that.

WTF are you talking about? Scientologistst? Are you mad? Think! She would join Communist Party sooner than some mere American sect.

I think she's been a Party Member for quite a while. Remember, she's a Chinese super patriot, and super patriots tend to do that.

This might be a truth, but does superpatriots have (his/her)s foreign boyfriends/girlfriends?

I don't see how the two are connected. Loving one's country has little to do with loving a particular person of a different nationality.

Well, not for Chinese ppl in general...

Ziyi included, have become super-national. They make their own rules and live their own lives.

I'm not saying they don't absorb some negative feelings. They do, I'm sure. Also, to be a super-national, means a person may give up some of the exclusivity afforded by citizenship in just one place; even if exclusivity is figurative. I'm sure Ziyi has every right ever afforded to any Chinese. Probably, some of her fellow Chinese feel a little less supportive of her. Hell, probably they can't even understand her position in the world.

I'll wager, Ziyi is only comfortable amongst other people in similar situations.

Personally, I have no expectations of anyone from that group. The only thing I want from Ziyi is for her to make more films. And to make it snappy.

Well, in this (http://www.helloziyi.us/Articles/Ziyi_Chinas_Best.htm) very old article it is said that she indeed applied to communist party, but application has yet to be approved. And it was 2001, so there is no clear evidence in that matter and nothing new has been said since.
I guess she left that idea, when she got engaged with V. Nevo.

You think she couldn't be in the Party, and still be engaged to and infatuated with this capitalist fellow?

Maybe you could elaborate on just why you would think that.

Personally, I feel if Ziyi's in the Party, then the Party has at least one good thing going for it. I think she's waaaay too bright to be brain-washed. She could live anywhere she wanted and in any style she wanted. She's waaay too pretty to be ignored. Put all that together and subtract it from what we DO know about her and what falls out is she's a girl on a trajectory. Where she's headed, only she knows.

She's definitely moving. Being in the Party would have advantages to someone who chose to live in mainland China.

I've never thought in that way.

I would never negate her beauty, but in politics it does not count very much.

Ok, let's end this debacle. I just wanted to know some more fresh news about her and point out that Scientologists as a choice would be a very bad idea. That's all.

There is some speculation that Ziyi joined the Party at a very young age. Back then, you would get perks for joining, like maybe discounts on utilities and parking tickets. That was then. Nowadays, those Party perks don't mean squat to her.

Chairman Mao's Frequent Flyer Miles. She's probably racked up a few free trips to who-knows-where for shopping for things for her mother. And things for herself.

Also to places where she don't have to pay to play. She's, after all, Chinese.
